Commonwealth Games 2 Round Up

Well day 2 saw highs and lows for team Jersey.

Mens Triples started the day with a comprehensive win over Fiji 20-10 putting them within a point of winning their group. They gained that point on their second game drawing 11-11 with Brunei who put a massive fight against the boys. They will now take their bye and watch with intrigue the final group games to see who they face in the quarter final.  Win that and they will have 2 shots at a medal!!

Also in action at the same time was Rachel in the Ladies Singles. After a tough first day, Rachel was looking to bounce back against Brunei.  After a bright start, Rachel fell to a 21-14 defeat. Her final match was up against Wales Laura Daniels.  Laura proved too strong and beat Rachel 21-11.  It was never going to be an easy group but great effort Rachel.

Up later on in the day also looking to bounce back after a tough day the Ladies Fours were in action.  First up was Norfolk Islands.  They proved too strong for our ladies with Norfolk running out 21-13 winners.  Last game Up was a tricky test against South Africa. Again another good effort by the ladies but fell 19-7 in defeat.

The ladies will now have the weekend to regroup and focus on the Triples and Pairs which start next Monday.

They guys will find out their quarter final opponents at 4:45am tomorrow (UK) time and the match being played at 7am (UK) time so those early birds who catch the work can catch the live scores!!! Best of luck guys.

Commonwealth games day 1:

Well what a start for the men’s Triples. Playing the host nations and one of the favourites live on tv, Buzz Mario and Ross toppling the Aussies 21-18 cracking achievement. Following up later with a comfortable win against Botswana 27-4. They hold command in their group and should be favourites to win it.

At the same time Rachel kicked off her campaign against Scotland falling 21-13. Never an easy game in a very very tough group. Rachel’s second match was the battle of the Channel Islands against the 2018 ladies singles World Cup winner, Guernseys Lucy Beere. Unfortunately Lucy got the better of Rachel winning 21-12.

Afterwards in the afternoon it was time for the ladies fours to start. First game for Jersey was New Zealand. Dropping a 7 ended up costly as they fell with a credible loss against a very good side 20-15. Straight after they were up against Zambia. After a worrying start they clawed back to 10-7 but couldn’t recover and fell to Zambia 22-9.

Day 2 starts again very shortly and live end scoring will be at the link on the bottom of the post for the few that want to stay up 🙂
