Code of Conduct

Bowls Jersey has taken note of British Isles National Governing Bodies and set these standards that apply to everyone involved in the sport including staff, club officials, coaches, volunteers, players and spectators.

This general Code of Conduct has been produced to protect everyone in the sport and to ensure that everyone can enjoy bowls in a safe and inclusive domestic environment. Tournament-specific Codes of Conduct will be issued by Bowls Jersey or the Host event as appropriate and will supersede this code for the players and officials involved.

Respect all participants and decisions: Encourage everyone: Show sportsmanship: Play for enjoyment: Educate and be knowledgeable: Conduct yourself courteously: Treat everyone fairly

Key Principles of Respectful Behaviour

Do: 

  1. Respect all players, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators.
  2. Participate in the right spirit – the sport should be fun at all levels
  3. Take reasonable measures to keep yourself and others safe.
  4. Promote the sport in the best possible light through your actions and behaviour.
  5. Abide by the rules/regulations of bowls, and any additional competition rules.
  6. Abide by BJ policies.
  7. Speak to an official from your club if you are concerned that this code is being broken.

Do Not:

  1. Participate under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  2. Use foul, abusive, threatening or discriminatory language or gestures.
  3. Publicly criticise or engage in demeaning descriptions of others, including on-line (email or social media).
  4. Engage in any behaviour that constitutes abuse as identified in the BJ Safeguarding and Anti-Bullying Policies. 
  5. Keep your concerns about abuse or poor practice secret.

As a member of an affiliated Club, I understand that if I do not follow this Code of Conduct, and if a written complaint is made to the Management Committee, any or all of the following sanctions (not an exhaustive list) may be applied by Bowls Jersey:  I. Be required to apologize formally; 2. Receive a warning; verbal or written; 3. Be suspended; 4. Be deselected.
